    ... the Bormio side and straight away I knew I was in for a hard climb. It is 20 km long but the problem was the slope. I was working hard and part of the climb was 14%25. The climb was breathtaking, with tunnels of dripping water and waterfalls and high barren peaks. I stopped at the 10 km mark for water and supplies and was basically stuffed then.     After lunch we visited Runkelstein Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 1200's. It's main claimm to fame is the large number of period frescos painted about 100 years later. After various periods of disuse and damage, the castle and frescos were restored for public viewing in 2000.
