Heads in the clouds
... the Quilotoa crater lake...and back up again. The lake was beautiful, but it was the drive through the countryside that was most impressive during this day. We were really grateful to have had the opportunity to see how the locals live and our guide was really informative with a good sense of humour...well, he appreciated Tom's jokes anyway.

Quilota loop: An amazing three day hike
... nog wat mooier maakte is de moeite die het ons gekost heeft om de loop af te maken. Zoals de foto's duidelijk maken was er geen enkele meter van deze 9km vlak. Op deze hoogte was het een serieuze uitdaging om op de steilste stukken van de kam boven te geraken. De gehele tocht was dus zeker en vast moeilijker dan de trip naar de Pichincha in Quito.
Na al deze dagen van wandelen zijn we nu klaar om even weg te zijn van al dit. Onze volgende bestemming is Ecuador ...
Quilatoa Crater
After a magnificant drive through the Ecuadorian Mountains we arrived at sunset to see the sun going down . Too dark to do anything it is off to the hostel, with wood burning stoves, it is very cold and a supper of soup, potatoes, meat and rather strange desert.
These are the best beds of the trip with huge feather duvets and fires in the bedrooms. A pity about the showers either too hot ...
Vulcano country
... de Quilotoa, a crater which is now a beautiful lake. I walked down the crater with the guide and that was easy enough - we had our packed lunch by the lake shore in bright sunshine - lovely setting. The way back up was much harder going. It was very steep in places and at 4,000m it was very hard work.

flying home to England! Well done, girls and boys – it was an impressive demo of the fact that the young of today are not all antisocial geeks stuck to their mobile phones saying “I’m bored, what can I do?”
