... right beside the Hampton & Holiday Inn. Renting a vehicle in CR does cost a little more, as you need to buy the extra insurance which is not covered by your credit card.  There is a Denny's right beside the hotels, that was our supper. If you are wanting a North American meal, this is where you can get it. The hotel is very nice, clean, super friendly staff. We had a good sleep and work refreshed for the ...

After a 1 and a half hour wait in the middle of nowhere near San Jose and a bit of freaking out, my bus finally arrives and following another uneventful boarder crossing, I arrive in Costa Rica. The drive down to San Jose is beautiful and very different to the other CA countries I've visited, you can definitely see the change in economy.

As you may have guessed from the title its a little more expensive than we had previously thought / budgeted but we made it work and we're really happy with the plan. We have a good variety of environments which should allow us to see all that we wanted in CR. I'm not going to hint at what we hope to see, so the blog will have a few surprises but one thing we are really hoping to see is a wild sloth, 2 species exist in Costa ...

... this is absolute luxury compared to some of the hotels we stayed at in the past 2 weeks. And all with breakfast included!!!! I am using San Jose as a catch-up spot for myself. I needed to send a parcel home, full of souvenirs that I purchased along the way ( it has already arrived home) and a chance to catch up and recuperate before traveling on my own through the rest of Central America. But not wanting to leave the group travel experience just yet, I have booked an early morning ...

... was a nice place close to the terminal and it was safe enough for us to walk there. We had a taxi driver telling us that it wasn't safe and that the hotel we were going to was bad - he was just trying to get money out of us as the guy actually at the Tica Bus info desk had told us otherwise. So within 2 minutes, we had walked to the very safe and very nice hotel - Hotel Cacts.

We were so happy that we had finally made it to San Jose!
