Malecon Vasco Nunez De Balbo, next to Capitania de Puerto Guayaquil, Ecuador, 593-4-277-2435
... or the towns we passed through. We were on the local bus that stopped everywhere, carried all the locals with their shopping, their children and animals! A stop for lunch, several stops at different security points and even more for pick-ups and drop-offs.

We finally arrived in Guayaquil in the dark, concerned about getting a taxi, concerned that the guesthouse we were staying at would have given our room away, concerned about being in a new strange place feeling tired. But ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador suenson_taylorsWe were not quite sure what to expect of our time in Guayaquil. Essentially we were only using this city as a stop over point in order to look into Galapagos Islands tour options and then head up the Ecuadorian coast towards Quito.

In the end we discovered a charming city that mixed old town colonial with modern up ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador anthonykathryn... me up and we took the bus to her apartment. Her and her girlfriend could only offer me a sleeping bag on the floor, but I was so tired that I fell asleep instantly.

Diana was helping organize the local Gay Pride parade so I helped blow up tons and tons of balloons. Though the parade started about an hour late and there were only 10 floats, it was an absolute success. The floats and costumes were ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador mgesley... it. The sign is about 10 inches square so it didn't exactly jump out at me. I settled into my room and crashed. I spent two nights there and didn't do much other than walk along the malecon. The city didn't appeal much but the malecon was a pretty design and a pleasant place to hang out.

Guayaquil, Ecuador margreet98... malecon, which is the boardwalk near the river. Very different from the Malecon in Lima, which is mainly a set of parks high above the ocean on a cliff... this malecon is veery modern looking, with lots of security and beautiful installations all over the place, like a yacht club, museums, a great botanical area, etc. etc. Also, this malecon is right above the river banks. After walking around the malecon for a while, having a blasty blast ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador christianbjork... of typical Ecuadorian cuisine, and made friends with a lot of the passengers on the plane. Everyone was really happy with the service by Continental and the Hotel. Our drive to the airport was pretty sad, as Guayaquil is not the prettiest city, and looks for the most part very rundown. We can't say we would ever travel there again. But, it was still nice to see a bit of the "nicer" Malecon.
Guayaquil, Ecuador gabinryan... must say that she is the true definition of a "help mate". Good times and bad times, their all special moments that will never come again. Shes also good when I dont want to pay the "Gringo Tax" that sometimes I have to pay for speaking english. When I speak they say "oh, he has money, so Ill double the price"! hehe Theres not much to do here in Guyaquil so we take weekend excursions to Motanita and stay at a nice ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador vaughnybThis is the biggest city in Ecuador and the only reason I had to stop here is that I could not get a convenient bus connection to where I was headed. I have nothing nice to say about it the place except that the local restaurant close to the hostel served the most delicious fish steamed in banana leaves. It cost less than 2 pounds to eat here.
Guayaquil, Ecuador nas.latifGuayaquil is Ecuador´s biggest city (not the capital though). We arrived here after changing buses in Tumbes earlier Friday morning (having spent all Thursday night driving from Trujillo). There was really no need to stay in Peru any longer, so we just grit our teeth (the bus rattles) and kept going until we got here. We found a hostal room for $15 a night. There are no windows or air-con though, so its a bit humid. We headed out that night to enjoy the cool ...
Guayaquil, Ecuador jill-camGuayaquil is Ecuador's largest city and is known as a sweltering cesspool of a port town. The bus ride from Cuenca brought me down, down, down to sea level....and everything that comes along with that. HOTT and STICKY. I felt like I was back in Vietnam riding the bus through miles and miles of banana and pineapple fields while repeatedly sweating through my shirt.

So why come here ...
