    ... out I could speak Italian. He spoke to me the whole trip in Italian at a normal pace. The water was noisy and people were yelling things out in the street and my friends were talking in English. This made it hard for me to concentrate on his conversation which I needed to do as it is not my natural language; I still managed to hold a reasonable conversation. Normally todays modern stations have loads of the same kind of old boring trains sitting in every platform, however here in this station there was no two trains the same.     After a short walk from St Mark's Square, we actually did get lost. And it was a sign of things to come for us in Venice. We happened to be nowhere.
