... And we even managed to not get pooped on. Win!

Getting lost in Venice is pretty much as easy as just walking around. There are no methods of figuring out which alleyway goes where and you can forget about asking the locals - not because they wouldn't be happy to help but it would probably sound something like "Ok, turn right at the second alleyway, cross two bridges, not three, and turn left at the thrid alley, go past the store ...

We got to explore the prisons and walk across the bridge, the bridge is famous because it was part of the route the prisoners took from the prison to their execution and during the walk they would hear the entire city cheering for them to die. Very solemn, but I thought it was awesome! From there we walked to the basilica ...

We only had until 10.30, but that was quite a good amount of time. It was set out well so there was a path ...

... had some currency in advance. I called in to one Cambio. He took the currency from me even though I’d told him what it was, he looked at the obverse and turned the notes over to look at the reverse. It was as if he’d never seen this money before. The notes were brand new with no marks on them. Maybe he thought it was some sort of scam. He said politely, ‘No! I’m sorry. You may be able to change them at the train station’.

From the bus terminal we were reminded of the challenges of moving around Venice - not just the narrow alleys and maps not to scale or alleys not on the map but so many bridges and steps! After much labour with our almost 50 kgs of luggage and only one wrong turn we eventually found Ca Spezia, our guest house. Then we just had to further haul our gear up the 49 steps to the guest house front door.... We do love ...
