Always useful to check, as I have found to my cost in the past, it can cause problems if they forget to stamp your passport. The odd thing was that when we made the short trip across the border, there was no El Salvadorian entry stamp. I queried this with the bus staff, along with the assistance of a very helpful ...

In the end, we didnīt do an FMLN tour either as we found out there are no English guides available. Instead, go to the Centro arte para La Paz to watch two films in English about the Civil War and the guerillas. At least we learnt a little from watching these films. If you can understand Spanish, I think I would recommend taking a tour as ...

... to get into a yellow car which seemed like it was being held together by duck tape. It was by no means an official taxi. This was the moment I had to put my faith in humanity's hands. I got into the car, waved goodbye to the bus people and zoomed off into the dark of night, in a car that had seen better days with a guy who seemed friendly enough, but who spoke only Spanish and who just might not be an actual taxi driver. At least he seemed to be heading in ...
