Playa Samara, Costa Rica cdrewitzI can still take the salt in my mouth and feel it lodged inside my ears. We've just come in from another afternoon of surfing (I love saying that!) The past four days have been spent in Playa Samara and we've loved every minute of it. Sunday, I had my second surfing lesson, after a 5 year hiatus since Australia. It was a fantastic lesson, and by the end I'd been taught how to paddle to each wave, wait for and then surf the next one. I had even managed to, once on the board, jump and ride the ...
Playa Samara, Costa Rica cdrewitzApproaching our seventh border crossing with excitement and a hint of nervousness (the latter due to our bowels still not being 100%) we set out at 7am hoping that an early start would mean it would be a faster crossing. As the international bus had no availability we took a taxi to the border and then walked across. The taxi part was easy, the walking part not so clear. We were accosted by a local boy who for $7 offered us a fast track service to avoid the long queues as his brother was a cu...
Playa Samara, Province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica gareth.alannaWaking up early is a difficult task. Therefore I took the bus that leaves San Jose in the light and arrives at Mal Pais and Santa Teresa in the dark rather than being able to leave in the dark early morning and arriving in the day light. The ferry over the Nicoya Gulf at sunset was an amazing sight. Jefferson, on the same bus/ferry was taking a three day vacation from San Jose to this area. The lack of tourists and the abundance of locals and traveling surfers, makes this look like my kind of...
Santa Teresa, Costa Rica miller.time... are able to replicate in Long Beach.
We decided to do the surf lessons with Jimmy from Jesse's Surf Shop and had the yoga lessons with his wife. They were both really cool and we spent hours chatting with them about life in Samara and elsewhere (she was from Colorado and spent summers there). I would spend many hours chilling in the hammocks on the beach drinking coconut juice.
... I've seen in the states, even the farm! I think though that Mozambique last year had this place beat. Anyhow, I've seen so so sooo many shooting stars already, they are just constantly flying across the sky. Then there is of course the moon, which the last two nights has been nearing full so its been nice and bright for the walks. Some nights there are incredible lightning shows off in the distance in all directions, those blinding ...
Ostional, Costa Rica kaypea... of us triyng to dance, mainly because the boys were so good and we pretty much sucked. But we atleast tried. Last Friday Emily and I left for Tamarindo, which is a beach in the north west of CR. It took almost 5 hours to get there by bus, and we were so tired when we got there we just ate at Pizza Hut and went to bed. We decided to stay in a hotel instead of a hostel because the hotel was fairly cheap and we didn't want to have todeal with other people. On ...
Tamarindo, Province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica bell.costarica... lift are trying to make small talk with us. Just down the road appears the office area. No uniforms here. Attempt 3 at my Spanish interpretation of what happened last night. The man invites us round to his office and i need to make a statement in Spanish, no interpretors (only K!) here. He is very good and asks slowly and clearly so we just about get there. Somehow the official question of am i married moves to do i have a boyfriend, and can he come to the beach ...

Samara, Costa Rica barbarabryson... only to find that the cheese had curdled and gone off in the hot ride. We ate it anyway. 30 minutes later, a bus came and took us 7km back the way we had come and we found our hostel. It was a superb place, for 10$ a night, we had a private room with a shower right on the sandy shores of the Pacific. We dumped our stuff and just as the sun was setting, we hit the warm water. Really warm water. The sun set behind a big hill at the other end of the long beach and we caught some ...
