... singing, but we were able to do enough people watching to last us a lifetime. We lost track of our friends in the giant mess of people and headed home a little before 1 am. As some people would say, the party was just getting started, but I had seen enough. There were cowboys and sheep climbing up historical monuments, marichi band members doubled over puking in the fountains, and colored pencils doing circles in the street... And to make matters ...
Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands mathesonduoI'd been to Spain for like a month now and I hadn't seen the sea yet, so I decided to change things and get a bit of suntan. I called up 3 friends, we packed ourselves to a comfortable train and after an hour or so we got off in Cadiz, an important harbour and a really nice city on the Costa de la Luz.
Although I went there for the first time in February, it was so warm that I could stay in the swimsuit and survive. We started with a cheerful visit in a ...
... m presenting on dances of Spain, and unfortunately (or fortunately?) I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has done the readings. I've also got a couple great videos to show, and I KNOW the first sevillana very well now. The 2nd one is trickier for me, but I'll work on it all afternoon, and will have it down by class at 4 today. As for Matthew and Barrett, Les and Judy, everyone seems to be getting used to this lifestyle pretty well ...
cadiz, Spain aniseh... haha. I do have to say though I have been mistaken for a Spaniard actually quite a few times! I like to think that my spanish has improved that much and that Im just as tan....Anyways, I shouldn´t create those sterotypes, but for a second I had a moment of hesitation after the guy told me what would happen. If that wasn´t enough, now that we had become amigos, he proceeded to link arms with me as a sign of our new friendship. wow, comfort ...
Tangier, Morocco heisler7... I'll talk a little bit more about my adventures. On saturday the rest of the people from my program arrived and things have been a lot of fun now that I have people my age to hang out with. We go to the beach everyday after class and it is wonderful. We haven't started school at the university yet, we are doing a 2 week long orientation/ intensive language program right now and actually start classes on the 15th. My typical day starts with 2 ...
Cádiz, Spain and Canary Islands ryank5... for the first time on the trip, to the layers of Jewish history on the lanscape. We saw the 1920s synagogue of the French quarter that houses the contemporary community, the old folks home from the turn of the century, and the old Jewish quarter, long since in active. Our return ferry was at 3:30pm, leaving us little time to do much more than wander back through the medina to the ferry. The ride back was full of those last day conversations: what will we do back ...
Tangier, Morocco shneer... used in olive/grain presses. I buy a DVC tape from a store near the The Mirage Hotel and we are headed back to Tangier. The entire time we feel unhurried and there are few if any other tourists. Abdul admits business is slow..particularly right now from Americans. Too bad as we are delighted with the experience and its different enough from Spain that Lyn and I are already glad we did this even before we've ventured in the heart of the city.
Cádiz, Spain verow... powers of the time had their own sector up until independence in 1955, and from the French deco architecture it looked like it would have been one cosmopolitan, swingin' town in the first half of the 20th century. Now they're trying to regain some of their former glory by hosting an Internation Expo in 2012 ...
Tangier, Morocco technotrekker... talking. We ended up trading mp3 players for the night, I got him hooked on Jamie Cullem. I was really really nervous about how things would work out with the trains and ferries...I talked to a lot of people on getting to and from Morocco, everyone had a different story. I was lucky that everything worked out PERFECTLY. My ferries were relatively on time, everything fit together like a puzzle, giving me about 5 hours to enjoy Tangier, which was ...
