What a neat city! We didn't have a great first impression, since the taxi that took us from the train station to the hostel tried to charge us the equivalent of $120 for a 7 minute cab ride in the Romanian currency (we ended up paying 10 euros which was like 5x too much anyways but better than 100!) Fortunately, things only improved from there, and we had only positive experiences with cab ...

While Liviu speaks great English, we've noticed that English isn't so well known here, even with young people, compared to other places we've visited in Europe. It could be because Timisoara doesn't appear to be a popular tourist destination the way other areas in Romania, like Transylvania, may be.

Highlight of the day for me was at the Hungary/Romania border, got asked for the bike docs by a Romanian border guard, I gave him an A4 receipt from the hotel in Brno (Written in English) he had a good look and than passed it back with a cheery "Thanks"
