    ... distance.

The final destination was at the Sheraton hotel and as soon as I picked up my backpack, I jumped in a cab to the Occidente bus terminal to catch a local bus back in the direction I had just come to get to Santa Ana. This was US$5. A bit steep in my opinion, although it was a few miles away. I get the feeling that every foreigner has to pay US$5 minimum.

In the station, I asked the controller for the Santa Ana bus and he was decent enough ...

MORE CHICKEN BUS TIPS* People are always jumping onboard to sell you various goods from water, fruit, chocolate, toothpaste, headlamps, veggies, coconut water, painkillers, ice cream (still cold, not melted and with hard chocolate topping!). Price ranges from one quarter to one dollar depending on what it is ...

    To San Salvador, El Salvador

... two hours we had reached the border with El Salvador. Again, a lot of form filling etc. but still peanuts compared to Costa Rica. Never try to import your car into Costa Rica ;-) We can laugh about it now, but it was no joke at the time! The drive to San Salvador was beautiful and fairly uneventful. Here we stayed overnight and departed early next morning for Antigua, ...
