What´s new.......Buenos Aires

Hola,

Well, what a journey, 22 hours on a bus to get from Bariloche to Buenos Aires. It actually wasn´t too bad because we up-graded to first class and had amazing seats with food included. The food was like airplane food but it was actually really good. And for the first time in 2 months, they showed the films in English so we could understand them!!!! Yay!!!! Definately worth it to up-grade.

I was very excited to get to Buenos Aires and I listened to the Evita soundtrack as ...

Buenos Aires

Last day in Iguazu was a pooring rain, I tried to do a hike in the national park...but after getting rather wet after hiking just 3km, I figured that it is probably not the best I could do this day...so went to Puerto Iguazu to do my last shopping and back to the hotel...enjoyed just a lingering day of reading a book and working on my laptop....in a way nice also after all my hectic schedule lately... Been so impressed with myself in regards to my spanish, before going to Ecuador I really did...

La Boca: Colour, life and tourist tat

... Guia-T and that will give you a list of the roads for the outward and return routes, which differ of course because virtually all the roads are one-way. If you don’t have any matching numbers, then you check adjoining squares to your departure / destination squares and try again! It’s a bit like a game and the prize is a bus ride.

We won a bus ride to La Boca. This has traditionally been seen as one of ...

Buenos Aires

... time thing is weird - lunch is around 2pm, you don´t go out for dinner until 10pm at the earliest. Drinks in a bar from about 1pm, and then a club. I was given strange looks the other night as I got hungry and went to a restaurant at 8pm and ordered myself a Bife de Chorizo (steak to you and me). I was the only one eating, everyone else was just in for coffee and cake!
It wouldn´t be ...

Steak, Cemetaries and Football

... where you go wandering around from what we have heard. It was a few blocks away from La Bomboneira so we said we would stroll over. It is so touristy but sher there was a good vibe there. The buildings are all made from coloured corrugated metal so its quite pretty. We went into one of the restaurants where the touts were calling us in - so annoying. There was a tango show on at the restaurant aswell so that was good enough. There was a Maradona look-a ...

A city I could live in

... 2001 financial crisis (where the police shot at marching civilians with live bullets, killing people in the streets of BA). I took a walking tour round the city with Niclaas, a university student to see the sights such as the palace balcony where Evita talked to the masses, and the torture chambers where the military government were ¨disappearing people¨ in the 70´s. Its a pretty dramatic history here, if not tragic. And has lent itself to interesting ...

Buenos Dias from Buenos Aires

... to arrive as the flight was delayed due to snow in Madrid!) and us 3 Englishmen. We ate some steak and drank some wine in a restaurant on one of the city's streets taking in the vibe of Buenos Aires. What a wonderful city this is, I thought. One I must come back to. Another reason I felt I had to come back here is because my flight out of South America is from Buenos Aires. (Mental note made). Next morning we left for El Calafate in the sparse region of Patagonia. To the end of the earth....

Recoleta cemetery and Art museums

... I saw a massive queue to get to one of the sites and couldn't be bothered waiting; my guess is that it was Evita's. The cemetery has many of the important people from Argentina's past buried there, but I preferred just to wander around, not looking at anything in particular. Later in the afternoon I visited two art museums - The Latin American art museum and the Museum de ...

JAZZ BANJO? WELCOME TO BUENOS AIRES

... all grown up and gone to jazz. Does that make it jazz? Surely many if not most of these musicians got their start in R & R, and I'm reminded of one of the reasons I like jazz in the first place. I get tired of hearing about who's doing whom. I'm grown up now and this is an art-music alternative to classical, which leaves my butt without a twitch. It'll keep you awake. So the festival finally moved beyond its sleepy beginnings as one lost in its ...
