    ... of St George and up the bell tower. There were 146 rickety steps. Tiffany assured me that they looked fairly new and would have been checked before allowing tourists on them. However the ticket lady said that they were the original steps from several hundred years ago. Luckily I found that out when we were back at the bottom!
    The day was completed with a beautiful sunset and a walk around the sea listening to music including a choir group singing acapela at a restaurant.

    ... close to Italy (only half an hour by ferry to Trieste) there were also some great italian eateries as well.

    Although there is only the one big hotel in Piran there are quite a few little smaller guest houses . The beach area in front of our hotel is meant to be for guests only but we saw some very interesting people try and push their way in nonetheless. Perhaps the most annoying or entertaining, I'm not sure which was a rather old and larger ...
