... cars with VIPs and sponsors riding in the cars. After the team cars drove by the Tour parade came through. The parade is all of the TDF sponsors. This is the fastest parade you will ever see. The cars come racing by and throw all sorts of swag out the window. Pretty crazy!

I was watching the race on TV and it was neat seeing the riders go through part of the route we had just been on. A pro rider named Vincenzo Nibili had a 3 min lead in front of the main group of ...

    Day 4

Today we awoke early again to get ready for our ride. This was going to be the first day for us to watch the Tour de France live. As usual we were a bit stiff and sore but there is no time to ease into the morning. We had to eat our breakfast quickly and get dressed and ready to go. Rich and I joke that we feel like we are at cycling camp. We have to get up early, eat quickly, ride all day, get home late, eat dinner, go to bed then repeat. It has been great ...

... probably stood a good 10-12 feet and was made completely of hay. I am curious if this survives the winter or if this was just for the season.

From the top of the Telegraph we had a 3-4km decent and entered the great town of Valloire. This is a very nice little ski town with many hotels, restaurants and shop. We had no time to stop however as we still had a lot of climbing to do. Once leaving the town I saw our first kilometer marker of the day marking the ...

... or head for home. By now it was almost 2 pm. We left the hotel at
8:30 am so everyone was ready to head in. As we continued our decent we had an
unwelcome surprise. The road we were supposed to take was closed due to
construction. The only way home, take a detour that involved a 2.5 mile climb
at 8-10%. So much for finishing early. By now it was so hot the road tar was
beginning to melt a bit. The melting roads made the ascent seem that much
    harder and ...

At the foot of Glandon the event was halted for 15mins whilst they choppered away somebody injured for a crash. Chris told me later that he was stopped on Glandon as well for 45mins for another chopper evacuation.

Glandon was uncomfortable for me but at least the scenery was magnificent, rolling green hills, craggy rocks, waterfalls, little forrests plus the odd village or two....made it interesting.
