Leaving Nice late in the afternoon, using the tollways, found it easy to drive to Savona. Well, easy in that it was the most direct route with few entry/exit points. With a speed limit of 130, you were certainly moving. Driving at the speed limit, we were one of the slower vehicles on the road. Trucks went hurtling past, as due to the fact that you were either in a tunnel or on a viaduct, you rarely had a hill, and the drivers took full advantage of it.

... was fine with faint sunshine. We decided to walk through the subway to the beach before it got dark. The tunnel led straight to a concrete wall. We stood on top and watched the waves pound up the shingle. It was surprising to see breakers after all the time in Croatia with flat calm sea. There is no beach to walk along and no path to follow.
