      A Major Milestone

Today Susan and I crossed 1,000 kilometers pedaled so far! Although we are still along the coast, the terrain has become more hilly and much more rural south of Pescara. The shore is dotted with little fishing villages and roadside stands where the fisherman sell their daily catch. We stopped in the town of San Salvo Marina, got a beach front hotel room, slept on the beach for a while and then enjoyed another great fish dinner. Thanks for coming ...

... band and procession to the church! We had a front row seat for the festivities!

Today (Saturday), the church bells started around 6 am, then there was singing in the church across from our house. A little later, a cannon went off, men were sitting outside the church selling little (blessed?) rolls. Then came the marching band up our street! It was quite the sight to see from our windows. And, there was ...

In search of the fairy wonderland

Today, we ventured out to find the national park in the Abruzzo mountains where there is a walk described as a fairy wonderland. We only have a description and vague location of the trail head, but we were determined to find it! And, we did!

It was a really lovely walk through a gorge and along a river. We only saw a few others along the way, so it was peaceful and quiet ( as quiet as we can be with these children!)

      We ...

... in the afternoon so we arrived a little too late to find a good lunch spot. We ended up in kind of a touristy spot with a great view of the beach, town & sea, but it was very touristy and high-priced. Termoli definitely a place to eat fish, which no one in our group likes!! We managed to find a few non-fish items on the menu and that's what we select. The food was just okay but we loved the view and it was nice to sit down and enjoy each other's ...

      Quiet Sunday

We have now been here 7 days! Where has the time gone?

It's Sunday, so we start hearing the church bells at 7. By 8, everyone is awake. We have 4 Catholic Churches in our neighborhood and there are 20 in Lanciano! There is a church that we can practically touch from pour window. I think their bells ring about every 15 min. on Sun. morning! This morning, it's looked like something special, like a wedding, was happening. It's interesting trying ...
