Coming back to Leh to leave it

... is her accent in English, but then she mentioned she's Lithuenian the Russian accent became obvious. :) The girl didn't feel well - it proved she didn't realize that the pass is at 5.6km. I left her a Neurophen, and said to drink alot and eat. Hope they'll make it.
All out of sudden there is a guy who came to my homestay house with a non-diesel car, and he has 5L of petrol to sell! What a luck! HE even says it'll be enough to get to Leh!
The road back is not as ...

Morning pray (I should have prayed for oil)

... to pick me back to Leh (along with the scooter!) tomorrow in the noon, when he comes back.
There was nothing to do and it was getting cold, so I walked to the homestay house. The room was very Ladahi - big windows all around - it's going to be freezing there in the night! I stayed a little in the room reading, then decided to move to a more central location - the kitchen. At least it's not that cold there! There I met the whole family: a mother, two sons and a grandma. Only the ...

Kardung La

... it became colder, but in a pretty severe way. When I reached the check post - South Pullu - some Indian tourist was very surprised with me having no hat, and was very kind to give me one - called Monkey Hat (it just took it off the head of the the ladies in the car, which made her surprised as well :). So now equipped with the Monkey Hat, gloves, full helmet, thermic underwear, boots I was going to pass the Khardung La @5.6 km. This would be the highest point for me to visit ...

Hundar.

The trek is finished and we are a little sad to be already done. Sirin drops us off at a guesthouse in Hundar with a lovely garden. We give Sirin a 500 tip, and a Swiss Army knife.

Hundar turns out to be very religious. There are shrines and Buddhist monuments everywhere ...

Area of Leh and Pagong Lake

Back from the mahoosive climb.

... picked up said top rock to bang it on when my nameless bag decided to descend the mountain at a faster rate than us lot.
It took the guides an hour to find it, as it was dark green and the rocks were... dark green... Oh, and I found it after half an hour, but the guides ignored my gestures, and shouted at me when I tried to retrieve it, despite proving I was more than equipped to deal with the situation, unlike Siri who's name was often substituted for another four letter ...

... uued kingad. Long ass crazy drive to Leh

... rocky parts of the Himalayans. Truly unbelievable but I will definitely not be doing that drive again. The trip was topped off by getting a flat tire about an hour before we got to Leh in the middle of nowhere at about 10pm and it started to sleet. Funny now to look back on. Who else can say they helped change a flat in the middle of the Himalayans?
I am actually surprised we didn ...

The Girls Who Lived

... road a descended down a dirt road. After consulting some men building a house, we found our route to leave the road and head directly up a sand dune the size of a small mountain. You need to understand that in Ladakh the landscape is basically barren and treeless except around areas where ancient irrigation canal systems direct the flow of the meltwater from the mountains. We trudged up the mountain ...

Markha Valley Trek

... Zeus. We arrived at our pick up point just before 12, with our pickup time been noon. In India they tend to add a couple of hours on to times, so the jeep didn't arrive till 2 before returning us to Leh. The four of us left having seen some magnificent scenery, met the physical and mental challenges the trek had thrown up and made new friends. Whilst the pony man left with his remaining pack animals, a big smile on his face and a fistful of rupees. GPS ...
