Yesterday (Friday 9th Jan) we had another amazing breakfast - this time with Roberto and Ilaria. We spent the day with Ilaria's brother Dario and his wife Anita. While we were waiting outside to be picked up by Dario, we were saw the local baker who drives around beeping his horn and sells breads and pastries from his van. Roberto bought us a custard pastry which was delicious! We were laughing saying that it was Switzerland's equivalent of Mr Whippy. ...
... Back to St Moritz, we had a walk around the small township ..Didn't see anyone famous, but lots of expensive looking shops... Luckily it was Christmas Day and shops were closed... Except a cafe or two where we had lunch. Then walked back to the hotel via the lake... Just gorgeous. Hard to believe that the lake is usually half frozen at this time of year, and fully frozen by January, when they hold the White Turf Day, and ride horses on the frozen ...
... The ride up the mountain to St Moritz was amazing, especially driving thru the pass just as the sun was going down.. Hard to take photos out of the bus window, but I tried to capture the beauty.. Looking forward to seeing St Moritz in daylight... Snow on the streets, but not snowing and not expected to do so for a few days... Too bad we are leaving on Boxing Day... Christmas Eve dinner tonight was a buffet... And yummy ... Will need to walk it off tomorrow.... ...
... to take the rail car or gondola up the mountain to Piz Nair which is 3057 metres above sea level. We made the climb in 3 stages of rail cars, again with spectacular views as seen in the photos.
