    ... climbing an almost vertical path to reach the top of the pass some 740 meters higher. Once again the weather was hot and we found ourselves dripping with sweat as we struggled to the top.

    However all was not in vain as we were greeted by a stunning view of crystal clear lakes where we stopped for a picnic lunch.

    ... eventually arriving at Madulain where we were supposed to catch the train. On arrival we discovered that the train was going to take another hour before arrival, so decided to walk the two kilometers back to La Punt where we treated ourselves to an ice cream before boarding the bus back to Silvaplana.

    In the evening Stef and Jan joined us for supper which consisted of chicken and salad.

    We were invited over to Stef's house to braai with all her friends from the kite school, so armed with some Pork Neck and a salad we set off by bicycle to Chamfer. The braai was set up on Stef's huge veranda and soon we were surrounded by the youth of the Engadin. A nice bunch of kids, they hail from all parts of Europe ...

    Wednesday, August 5 was our “Village Road Show,” exploring several of the delightful villages along a 40 km stretch of the Engadin Valley – characterized by deep-set windows, stenciled stucco and cobblestone streets. We drove along highway 27, through La Punt, Madulain, Zuoz,and Susch,around Guarda and Ardez, finally stopping at the hillside village of Tarasp, in the shadow of the Tarasp Castle.
