TUESDAY: We had a fantastic day and really enjoyed our visit to Lake Como. It was definitely worth the drive and effort! What a truly beautiful place.

We set out early at 8.30 in the hope to beat the heat and get a car park near the funicular railway that takes you up a very steep gradient to lovely views at the top. We had a nice time wandering around at the top and David was very taken with an old old hotel ...

We sat on one of the benches and ate our meals before getting really yummy iced wine smoothies (our version of Italian wine) which we drunk whilst playing cards. ... of the refectory 1494-1498. Well worth seeing.
In the pm went to a Marc Chagall exhibition.
Early evening took the train to Porta Genova and the Navigli district which has 3 canals left from the 5 originally built and use to cover 150 Kim's. Lots of bars and restaurants. Sat outside at a bar having drinks and nibbles for a very reasonable price. Mild evening with lots of locals out walking.
