    ... after 5km and fording a small river we could see the Via Verde - the old railway track on a viaduct high above us

    ... with many fields still inundated and making the area look as 'foreign' as just about anywhere I've seen in Europe. And although there were less birds in total, with far fewer herons and egrets than we had found back in November last year, the quality was still high with one of the first birds we had seen being exquisite breeding plumaged Whiskered Terns and with exotic looking Black-winged Stilts very much in evidence.
