Day 10 - Goodbye Nicaragua

A travel blog entry by rgbain

On my last day, I said goodbye to my volunteer team, now new friends, and to the wonderful country of Nicaragua.

Thank you to all the support I received from family, friends and donors to make this trip possible. Together we made a huge impact on the lives of others and touched them in many ways we will never know. Again, thank you so much!

Arriving without my suitcase in San Jose

It's almost 24 hours by now since we arrived in Latin America and already we have amassed a few tales to tell. We left Wales at 4.30 a.m. on Monday morning leaving more than a little time to spare before catching the first of our flights at middayish from Manchester to Heathrow. We certainly could have had an hour more sleep before leaving the …

Flight to Managua was an easy 2.5 hours. At take off the pilot announced current temp in Managua as 98*F - right on! Upon arrival the heat felt amazing. The usual commotion at the airport..lots of taxi drivers offering rides. I informed them (en espanol) that I was waiting for my shuttle and they were all nice about letting me know when it arrived …

Our adventure had an early start. Our first flight of the day was at 6:00 a.m. which took us to Miami Florida. In Miami we were delayed for about an hour before our plane took us to Managua Nicaragua

Once we got to Managua getting through customs was very easy. The first thing that I noticed was that it was very hot today. The …

Due to flight changes, I only stayed at Hotel Camino Real for an evening but it was a pleasant place to be. I enjoyed a free cocktail and fish fritters (average) while watching some live sax music. It was a lovely end to a very long day. My only 'complaint' was that at checkout I asked if I could swing by for a swim while in Managua for a 5 hour layover next week. They said no, even when i offered to pay. I understand the pool is for guests but i have paid for a room and was will willing to pay extra?
