    Gijon

A travel blog entry by a.baker.abroad on Jun 26, 2015

With 1000km to drive in 2 days to get to Logrono to meet the girls, we had a fair bit of driving to do. We drove out of Portugal along the coast to the North-west corner of Spain before heading along the north coast and stopping for the night in the seaside town of Gijon. Not much to report, we went for a wander along the shore and checked out the city before grabbing a feed and hitting the pillow around ...

After departing from SADA with a slight weariness from bonfire night's exuberance by 10, it was time to rejoin the A-8 which runs the parallel to the coast. It is a beautiful drive as it it runs parallel to the coast virtually throughout. If we crossed a hundred Rio's yesterday it was easily that. If you suffer from vertigo don't look down. Some are 600 metres long and maybe 150 metres up from the valleys below.
Even though it is a second tier road in Spain's hierarchy the surface and ...

Discovering El Camino de Santiago de Compostela

... late: leading to a mad dash through customs, two escalators an elevator and a shuttle to get to our connecting flight to Oviedo. Luckily, I met Supriya , who is my roommate for the Camino ,at JFK and discovered that were on the same flight. Challenge #2. My luggage didn't make it to Asturias. I didn't see my suitcase again until 10:30 pm. At least I can sleep well tonight and tell you about the first day of the journey tomorrow ...

This is a lovely little fishing village in a small amphitheatre type cove with port. Of course the hotel is at the top and best place to park is down at the marina. I did plan and we had very little to take up but i am learning what I don't need of my camera gear because some can get quite heavy to carry. It was really interesting to look down on the houses and look at the numbers with weeds/grass growing on top, some of the buildings were derelict some ...

Today a group of us returned from our trip to the Picos de Europa, in the northern coast
of Spain. The Picos de Europa is a
national park located right next to the beach, with amazing cliffs and lots of
wildflowers growing. There, you can find huge mountains and the most beautiful
landscape. In order to get to the national park, we rented a car and drove for
5 hours on Sunday the 31st of May. If you like road trips, this is ...
