We had breakfast at the hotel. Same old deal crosaunts and coffee. We walked out into the rain and drove down the steep mountain, wasn't as bad in the day light. We drove to a little seaside village north of Erice that had been swamped during the night with waves. Very poor area and nothing much happening in these little towns. ... through for €35 a night and the hotel couldn't do it for less than €50. Go figure!!! Greg had to move the car, and the lady fro. The hotel showed him where to park. We walked to a place for dinner as were hungry and cold. The hotel room turned out to be really nice. Greg didn't get much sleep though because it was a wild windy went noisy night ...

... We can hear local residents but only behind closed doors. The feeling is uncomfortable as we enter. Either side of the long straight street, pavements are uneven, broken by tree roots and flourishing weeds. Gates are rusted through and hang off hinges. Windows are rotten with doors unpainted. Many houses are unoccupied and uncared for, spalling concrete facades with exposed rusting reinforcing bars. Every house has a guard; a hungry, angry, snarling dog ...

... and they're not so good about taking care of biz. Antonio and Emily said that when the trash bins overflow people just set the garbage on fire. The bins at the end of my block are a towering inferno waiting to happen. Guess this is why the city is kinda dirty. At the same time it's nothing like Naples. That city was a dump but apparently the mafia controls garbage disposal there ...

... about three-quarters up gets pretty steep and just at the point where you feel like giving up the main road appeared.....phew! We were told that a 'Sisa' supermarket was fairly close by so we traipsed down the road in the (hopefully) right direction.... Stopped for a pitstop at the sports bar which is a nice bar which also offers free wifi so made mental note to bring iPad next visit.... After a few stops ...
