Our last full day in Mar Del Plata

... it during high season and I am glad that we missed that. They have said that this is the first nice weekend of the summer - and the weather has been good, about 20 degrees, but the breeze off the ocean is cool and when the sun goes behind a cloud you can tell. After the beach we headed to a restaurant that Martin had tried on another trip, with a nice view of the ocean and a little bit of everything on the menu. We sat and watched the surfers and ate a ...

    Tourista day!

We slept in a bit this morning - though Martin and Cecilia were up early because the sun rises over the ocean into their room early - haha! We met them down at the beach and walked along the beach where a feria was set up. Joel bought a nice leather bracelet. We continued down the beach line, to an ...

We were up early this morning to get ready to head to Mar Del Plata. Martin texted around 11am that they were on their way from his apartment so we headed out to the street. Quickly packed our bag in the back and headed to the highway. The trip to Mar Del Plata was about 400 kms and we passed through a few toll booths - mostly inexpensive, but the roads were good. The scenery is so much like home. If the billboards were in English I would of thought we were ...

This has been a wind down day with general relaxing and exchanging addresses. At the 0745 wake up call it was already 25 degrees so the days are definitely getting warmer. It is now time to pack away the cold weather clothes and brace for high temperatures. One particular presentation today was really inspiring. It was an honour to listen to Laurie Dexter, the team historian, talk about the first group to walk/ski across the Arctic. ...

Heading south we spent a night in Mar del Plata, another large city on the coast. Nothing special about the town except it is the second largest beach town in the country and does indeed have a very wide beach that was crowded even as the sun was setting. It's surrounded by very flat, very fertile farmland. What strikes me most is how little we know about this country. Seems like people either live in huge cities or in very isolated, tiny villages.
    Early in ...
