... to scores of hippies flocking here in the late 60's to take up rent free residence in the caves used for burials in Roman times.
We parked at the beach, there were a couple of other tourist cars parked, but no sign of the hippies, we were expecting groups of wrinkled faces with grey ponytails to be here!
The entry fee of 2 € paid we started to explore, the first caves were not very ...

We pottered about in the morning getting ready to leave. Logan had his walk on the beach and then we went to reception to pay. There wasn't any sign of life there or upstairs where the owners live. We know they are busy collecting their olives, Les walked to the restaurant to see if anyone was there. He was gone quite a while and came back with a plate of local pancake filled with feta cheese. The owners mother in law was cooking feeding the olive pickers and sent some for us to ...

The cut was soon done and Les now 'looks like the man I married'. We returned to the harbour and had lunch, then set off along the coast road, as we drove east the weather was deteriorating, we could see rain ahead on the mountains. The road snaked around very stark grey mountains, this area ...

It's a beautiful day, just right for a walk. We set off along the causeway and climb up to a small church along a track, there are couple of cars parked outside, perhaps there is a service today. The track lead us to a path that dropped down the other side to a lovely bay with a long and narrow island opposite us, to one side there was another church built on a small rocky outcrop. The path climbed and dropped back down as it snaked along the coastline. ...

After playing games with Logan in the large car park we headed towards a remote hilly area north of Agios Nikolaos. When we parked for lunch a car pulled alongside us to see if we were lost, the driver was Canadian, he told us he had come to Crete to escape the snow and was surprised to see so much here. We told him we were just having a lunch stop. The whole of this area feels very bleak, it's like being on a remote moor, every so often there are little hamlets, ...
