Hello hello... When we left you last we were about to head back to Marrakech to meet up with Kim and Sam - they were spending 5 days in Marrakech and were keen to do some camel riding in the Sahara, so we arranged to tag along and sort out a trip together. They were staying in Riad Tiwaline which was about ten times more expensive a night than we`d paid at dusty old Hotel CTM our first time in Marrakesh but we decided to splash out and it was sooo worth it! There were only 5 suites in the ria...
Meknes, Morocco aliandcamWe had a fantastic time in Marrakech and think you need at least a week here to see the real city life. Marrakech has a history nine centuries long. It has had moments of illustrious glory alternated with long years of decline. Many times over the city has been destroyed, rebuilt and embellished. Marrakech is known as "The Red City" because most of the buildings are coloured in shades of red. The medina section is surrounded by an ancient wall and within this wall is where we spent most of ou...
Marrakech, Morocco inoursuitcaseThe first passengers in a hot air balloon flight were a sheep, a duck and a rooster, launched by the brothers Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier in 1783. The last passenger was our monkey, Mono Loco. Today we took our first ever hot air balloon flight over the desert plains near Marrakech. When i was a child, well, when i was a younger child than i am now i made a hot air balloon from paper mache and half a Gold Coast Dairy milk carton. Around this same time there was a television advertisement f...
Marrakech, Morocco inoursuitcaseCTM Room 47 Now this is the place. I love the souk, the Djemma, my local Hammam, the food, the tea. I had a great time in Marrakech. I met a local art dealer, went to nightclubs, smoked a hookah, saw bellydancers, rode a scooter, bought a truck load of stuff including a painting that I am in love with.
Marrakech, Morocco lgirouxCTM Room 47 Apparantly I like getting hassled daily, but I am a Shopper, Hammamer and Eater. This is my place!

... nice though. I was tired, and frustrated from the
days proceedings, and opted to stay inside the hotel while Milli and Nick
walked around and then when it started storming Milli and I had a early night.
We woke pretty
early and went for a wander, then back to the hotel for a breakfast of jam,
bread, spongy pancake thingies and coffee. Milli and Nick wanted to see some
sights, all I wanted to do was walk around the souqs so we split up for the
day.

From the fun flats of Marrakech...we made our way to the High Atlas mountains for well...mountains of magnificent hiking and views.
Jebel Toubkal stands at 4200m above sea level and at that is the highest most point in northern Africa and also a bit of a mission! We made it up the mighty mountain in a few days and did some sleeping, sun burning and Scrabble in there as well. An absolutely incredible adventure!
Back down and all set to embark on a road trip to Fez!

... by our host – he’s taking me to his barber in one of those tiny little shops tomorrow “for such a close shave you won’t have another one for 2-3 days” – we headed off for another pre-arranged dinner at the recommended Riad Lotus Privilege. Wonderful, wonderful experience: the surroundings and the six-course meal. I got pictures.

You stood behind someone sitting on a bench eating their meal, essentially skulking over their shoulder while you waited for them to finish. And as soon as they finished and stood, you used elbows and fists to grab their seats for yourself. The stall served only fried fish, fries and ...
