The opening ceremony for the Patton Memorial Pilsen was held on May 5, 2005, on the 60th anniversary of the US Army´s liberation of Pilsen and southwestern Bohemia. This permanent exhibition is a lasting memorial to this historical event at the twilight of World War II.

Escaping the ‘modern’ centre unscathed, we arrived in the historical centre’s town square which was home to St Bartholemew’s Cathedral, an impressive spectacle indeed. Along with some phallic looking fountains, the square boasted a Plague Memorial dating from the 1700s. It was adorned with skulls and angelic looking children. Highly depressing times indeed. ...

Drove to Plzen the home town of Pilsner Urquell, Czechs world famous beer. A beer that inspired more then two thirds of all world beers labeled Pils, Pilsner or pilsener.
