The main, and really only reason for our visit to Pilsen (or Plzen) was … you guessed it …. for beer!!! Apart from the beer, Pilsen has a nice old town, and is the European Capital of Culture for 2015. It is also on the Lonely Planet’s top 10 places to visit in Europe for 2014, so it has to
have something going for it!!!

There is a nice main square (Republic Square) which has the obligatory big old church, ...

... agreed that this was the best dish of all and I certainly thought it was too. The warm food was a contrast to the storm outside.

From lunch we found the summer castle. Skies had cleared so it was perfect timing.

The castle was closed for the day but the gardens were quite beautiful. We wandered about for some time before heading down the path to some Hungarian Coffee, a coffee with egg liquor.

Time to get back to Amberg and watch the world ...

Up bright and early, on the road by 8.30. Weather still bad so hit the motorway for a 200 mile run to a German town called Sinsheim.
Before I left I got talking to a German lady over breakfast, she was with a netball ( I think) team from Neuwied, it turns out that Neuwied it twinned with Bromley...who'd have guessed!. It Transpires that they are having a festival in July ...

... here the sun came out to play - hip hip hip hooray. 01/06/2013. Our spell in the sun was short lived. Back came the rain with a vengeance. We went in the van to the scooter shop in the afternoon but of course it had closed for the weekend from lunchtime. 02/06/2013. Yes, still - and harder than ever. ... many other options in Plzen when Chris had been hunting for a place, so we took it.

At least the hostel wasnt far from town! We headed in via the universal Golden Arches for some warm-up food. The main square is called namesti republikly (Square of the Republic) and has been there since the 13th century. It is fully cobblestoned, surrounded by pretty coloured houses and the Chuch of St Bartholomew sits in the middle. Looking a ...
