... intent, but nobody seemed to know what to do, and we just had to wait for him to move off the line in his own good time. This took about 40 minutes, during which time the elephant presented his face, then his backside, then his side, and finally his face again to our view, and most of the people had got out of the train for a better look, only to be chased back on by those in authority, who seemed more likely to ...
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India lisa_and_paul... that I divided my time between all the kids. Staff at FFC said that while there is a waiting list for Indian families wanting to adopt babies, a change attributed to the government promoting the idea of adoption, few kids with disabilities get adopted within India however, so these kids tend to stay with FFC long-term. One of the kids, a bright, intelligent 21 year old girl named Rachel, had expressed an interest in visiting the ...
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India kalsi_kaur... that I will also have a reflexology consultation. Otherwise all is the same as the previous two days except I will do an extra yoga class...funny in two days I can see the improvements in my capabilities so it's all up from here. I can't say I am missing anything from the outside world, I am even going to take a week to go into town so that I might break my shopping addiction!!! ... although I fear that with lots of new things to see I will buy stuff anyway! :o) The intermediate ...
Coonoor, India nenebene... is an absolute God-send. You are awakened in the morning by the chirping of birds. A walk in the area is an absolute rejuvenating experience watching the myriad flowers in bloom. For bird lovers this is paradise. The weather was cool although it gets a littly nippy towards evenings and then one gets indoors for a comfortable reading.
This holiday bought us closer, as always. The food was excellent served ...
... since we'd never heard of this kind of treatment before. We continued on our way, all the while pretty upset at what happened, and were pretty angry with the driver for taking us there. We kept climbing, passing various shrines to St George, St something and something. (too many to distinguish for me) then we got to the tea plantations way up high in the mountains. They are these lush hillsides covered in round bushes that make a round pattern when you see them from far and they just ...
Thekaddy, India inahillebrand... you and tell you about their towns, homes and lives as well as comparing their country to Australia. I spent Saturday arvo in the Ooty botanical gardens reading and chatting to people, it was great fun. particularly one group of early high school sstudents who just about physically dragged me from my book and integrated me before ttrying to get me to judge a fashion contest. This is what i imagine life is like for improbably attractive ...
Ooty, India jimvsindia... only thing I could think about was a tv show I'd seen a while back about circus elephants that rampaged when they'd had enough of being beaten and tortured. As I wobbled back and forth, I realized that I was perched precariously on nothing more than a wooden board with a cushion and a small, loose chain barrier to keep me from falling off. My legs were dangling over the side so basically I could have slipped and fallen out. Had the animal charged, I could have been trampled ...
Mysore, India sphuck... government. This government is far more pro-farmer (and is trying to do the right thing) than the former government, and thus far it looks as though the farmers will win their case. The BMIC would be a toll road (100 rupees, no matter how far you plan on travelling on it, which is an astronomical amount for the farmers who will be the main users), however it has been revealed that even with the projected usages, the project will not pay for itself, as most Megaprojects are ...

Hmm, what else ... we had a really interesting guest lecturer and panel discussion the other day about the IMF and the World Bank and other such global organisations ... very interesting and something I will be reading more about when I get back home. Last night Alexis and I also had mehndi, or henna, done on our hands in these beautiful patterns. I took photographs (which hopefully I will be able ...
Bangalore, India lindsayann... took us on a guided tour of the temple, although this time it was a tour unlike it had been at Perur. It was fascinating though, to see such ornate buildings and statues on such a large scale. After the tour was complete, and after the guide had talked us into buying a few overpriced ornaments, we set off back to Coimbatore. We'd driven four hours to get to Madurai, and spent little over an hour there. Now we were faced with a four hour drive back. The drive ...
