We stocked up all manor of cheeses including Charles' favourite Buratta, various hams, fresh sauces, home made tortolonni, breads and Biscotti. The highlight of it all though was the opportunity to taste some amazing vintage vinegars and we treated ourselves to a bottle of thick, syrupy, 25 year old Balsamic. I'm not sure if we can ...

... the city. The Basilica was unfortunately closed when we arrived for lunch. There were however a number of Christians sitting around listening to what appeared to be Jesus playing a guitar singing the Italian version of Kumbaya.

While a road leads up to the top, it is also possible to reach the summit along a 3.8 km monumental roofed arcade - the Portico di San Luca. It consists of 666 arches (spooky right) and was constructed over a 119 year ...
