Left home heading for the 10.50 Eurotunnel, arrived slightly late. As normal I used the Flexiplus lane at the tunnel, it's for people who pay a lot more for the flexibility of arriving anytime you like and getting on the first tain available. Aachen is actually known for its thermal waters- Charlemagne used them routinely, and even Casanova dropped by for a splash - and I had found the Carolus Thermal baths in my internet searches about diverting things to do in Aachen. The map made them look like they were horrendously far away along a highway, but after having seen the rest of Aachen, I figured I could probably walk there.

We arrived in Dusseldorf (yes that is a real place) Monday afternoon and managed to decipher signs enough to find the meeting point to get to the taxi Joy had ordered. We got safely to Joy's place and were met by our much grown up grandson Aidan who was an excellent host, showing us to our room, around their home and a stroll downtown Geilenkichen where we had a really good dinner at an Italian restaurant where they spoke ...
