      After Cinque Terre, we continued north to a city called Como, on the border of Italy and Switzerland. Never heard of it before but we wanted to have one more stop before reaching Lucerne so this seemed interesting enough to go to.

      ... so the views weren’t typical of most days I’ve been in this area but were pretty nice none the less.

      Most impressive was the many small houses in the mountain villages. Many were for sale, very small and boarded up for the winter. I suspect not many people live there year-round.

      ... Parc, which was once upon a time a grand mansion. The lady in charge was much more accommodating and congenial than her terse colleague. Even so, it was a shame to miss the chance to visit the two very picturesque and celebrated offshore islands, but our hearts would not have been in it.
