Rybnik, Southern Poland, Poland david.kairisWe left Olsztyn early in the morning to head to Warszawa by Train. Sadly we arrived late at the train station, so instead we cought a bus a couple of hours later, but this bus was not guaranteed to get to Warszawa in time to get our 15:00 departure to Vienna. We spent a rather stressful 5 hours or so on the bus but ...
Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic mrewkowskiVaziuojam nauja, dar net nevisiskai baigta lenkų magistrale per Biesko-Bialą (Bielsko-Biała) iki čekų sienos. Apie 02:15 pasiekiam Čekijos sieną. Čekai kaip visada beveik netikrinę praleidzia mus į alaus salį. Mes dar kartą apkeičiam vairuotojus, nusiperkam lipduką, zymintį sumokėjim ...
Cieszyn, Poland kankelWe stopped in Roznov pod Radhostem to visit an Oppen Aair Wallachian Wooden Village Musuem. It was neat to see the traditional ways that people in this area lived - with all of the buildings made of wood. We got to see exhibits of welding metal, a saw mill, and working water wheels. This would be a nice stop especially for those with children.
Roznov pod Radhostem, Czech Republic lar4290... someone reads a cite about the hostility between Eva and the snake, they sing "Laudate omnis gente dominus" - which later would become the first christian song i will know by heart - and then a Christmas song. nobody joins to this whole event, a completely different ambient than in the christian Spanish and Portuguese buses i had been for a while working as a guide in Baltics. We eat in a bar on the highway where ...
South of Poland..., Poland hekate... another nice drive through small villages and wooded forests, and when we arrived we parked on the outskirts of the small town. After a short walk through a small park we came across the town's main attraction, the Castle museum. It was built by the Opole dukes in the 12th century (strangely enough, Opole was the region I was to be based in) and it really was a magnificent structure. We spent about an hour and a half inside looking at the galleries and were ...
Belk, Poland will... wandered in. It was very hard-hitting and really put the scale of the terror endured into picture. We wandered around looking at the exhibitions with a somewhat somber approach, it was hard to smile in that place. The wall where people were shot against was the most harrowing for me, as well as the gas chambers. Well worth a visit, its a 'must-see tradgedy' really. I'd definitely go back if i had the chance, and to visit Birkenau, the other camp. The scale is just ...
Prague, Nymburk (week) / Northern Moravia (weekend), Czech Republic bermudez... Andre, a friend from my hostel, before we started the tour. He was told by his friend that Auschwitz II or Birkenau is three times as big as Auschwitz and he ran out of time to see both. So Andre advised me to see Auschwitz quickly before we moved on to Birkenau. A brief history of this place : Auschwitz I was originally constructed as the barrack for Polish soldiers. But after the Nazis took over, it was turned into a concentration camp initially for the Polish political ...
