We headed out of town to Achilleion Palace, the retreat for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria. We had learned about her life when we were in Vienna last year. She built this house in Corfu in late 19th century style and decorated it with Gods of Ancient Greece, primarily Achilles for which the palace is named. We arrived in Corfu in quite heavy rain. We had organized a hire car for €43 which was very reasonable, and decided we would continue on with our plans. We drove to Paleokastritsa Bay which would have been beautiful on a nice day with a very rugged coastline and beaches. ... it all kind of works. We made it to Berat successfully. The town seems remind us much more of South East Asia than Europe with its chaotic workings. No parking meant we headed out of town again to the nearby family run campground. Set up in their backyard the owners where more than accommodating, cooking us dinner along with the required shots of Raijka.
