... of these back home. Right about the same time Susie was coming down from the room and almost stepped on an iguana! There are several just hanging around the hotel grounds and seem to the perfectly at ease surrounded by people.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out in the pool and then decided to head back to the beach to watch the sunset. Another beautiful Costa Rican sunset. Aaaaahhh, life is good.

When dinner time came around, we decided to ...
Flamingo Beach, Guanacaste, Costa Rica susieandisidro... the beach and explored a rocky area with some tide pools with tiny crabs and small fish.

Afterward we went back to the hotel pool where we met a couple from LA who had also found a great deal on airfare and were down here with their 2 kids. By this point we were hungry again (all that swimming builds up your appetite) and walked over to the local market and bought stuff to make sandwiches. On this little trip to the supermarket ...
Flamingo & Conchal Beaches, Guanacaste, Costa Rica susieandisidro... Susie's iPhone which now serves as Isabella's personal educational toy OH and the Mamma Mia! songs she loves to sing along to on the iPhone (much to the chagrin of those trying to get some sleep around her!!) People pay good money for this kind of entertainment! Besides, where else can you get this kind of in-flight entertainment for free?? A much better value than the on-demand choices you have on most flights. She managed to get several fans who liked her ...
Flamingo Beach, Guanacaste, Costa Rica susieandisidro... and lack of ability to transport their animals to town...Dawn takes care of all of that! We had a busy week. We spent a day driving around to homes rounding up candidates for spaying and castration. This of course, led to several consultations for various other health problems, usually situated on the hood of Dawn's car, or on the front porch of the homes. We dispensed flea and tick control, dewormers, trimmed nails and checked ...
Playa Flamingo, Province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica chadsteph... through Panama!! I'll file that one with the other one. Now we were actually backtracking through known territory for the first time in 7 weeks, so we knew that we could cross the border into Costa Rica in the evening, and there was a nice little border town called Villa Niely on the Costa Rican side where we could stay the night. When we got to our little hotel in Neily, it was typical Central American style accommodations...the place was new and beautiful, but at ...

Weit** den Fluss runt** konnten wir zwei Mal aus dem Boot, um zu schwimmen (eh**: uns treiben lassen), was echt cool war. La Fortuna, Costa Rica alezg... at 6am towards Costa Rica. Unfortunately the ferry time wasn't at 6am but rather 6pm (the manager at the Altagracia hotel said 6am) so I had to stay another night here (not a bad thing really). This morning had to bid farewell to yet more great people I've met durin my travels. Matheus and Christina had a boat to catch today. Who knows we may meet again in South America somewhere. After breakfast I hired a kayak for a few hours and went floating around the lake. More ...
La Fortuna, Costa Rica rolls... I think the ages range from 12 to 27. If a student fails any subject, they have to retake the entire grade. It seems like the schedule is very lax because it looks like some classes are lacking teachers. In all classes, there is only one book for everyone, so a student copies excerpts from the text onto the board so that the rest of the class can copy it into their notebooks. The lunches are made and served in a nearby building where a wood-burning ...
Ida San Luis, Costa Rica joeleeis... one of the exact same spots we'd burst out of the jungle at yesterday. (Maybe our knowledge of the beach roads and trails was just a lot better than it should've been. Like, say, those people with cars.) Everyone was put in a single file line, hushed, and pointed toward the direction of the single red light the guide had. Our tickets were checked twice, and we tiptoed toward the beach, where we were cautioned several times to stay in our single file line ...
Playa Grande, Costa Rica wktsorf... Since it gets dark at around 17.30, there's much time to sleep and only on Wednesdays there's something like a party in a seaside bar about 15 minutes from my homestay. The beaches and especially the wildlife are amazing!! Geckos, Birds, Iguanas and other animals are everywhere (mosquitos too...) and right now, in spring, all the plants and trees are so green (it rains almost daily too, for one or two hours). Nevertheless it's ...
