So after one wild night in Papaeete, I got on a plane and one hour later found myself basking in the sun aboard a ferry bound for vaitape. Two hours later I was sweating my ass off walking south towards my intended lodging, village pauline. One thing I noticed right away is that I attract alot of attention on this island. Everyone that passed, whether on bike or in the bed of a pickup, waved, gave me thumbs up, or stared until they dissapeared around the bend. One thing they would not do was ...
Bora Bora, French Polynesia cjs150... night a violinist played everything from country to classical, backed up by the orchestra. There has been quite the variety, from ballroom dancing, to an Australian vocalist, and tonight country. No x-rated comedians either, even at the midnight shows. I went to a backstage tour today to see how a show is produced. The RCL headquarters in is Ft Lauderdale, and the shows are ...

We're now at 170 degrees longitude and headed toward the International Date Line, where we lose a day. At a question and answer session with the captain, one lady wanted to know if we would be moving from daylight to night. The shocked captain told her nicely that it would still be daylight and we only change the date. Only a few snickers! It is confusing, especially since we’ve ...
... reading this blog the opportunity to take my work from me for free. It is so easy to screen capture or download almost any image from the WEB, so a slide show allows me to share my work in a way that is interesting yet produces small quality screen captures. Forgive me for this, I hope that you will choose to still enjoy the slide show photo presentation format.
We over-nighted in Bora Bora, many crew members went ashore to enjoy a night on the beach or a stay in one of the grass hut hotel accommodations.
I went to bed and slept in until about 11:15AM. I needed the rest.
I had IPM again today and so after eating lunch I headed to the crew training room to take care of some lessons I needed to complete and then headed ...
... saw Pas only as we were leaving the tender pier. I agreed to wait for the next tender to see if Pas was on it, while she rode into town; waited for the next tender, no Pas; Went with Paul to have lunch in the dining room. Ordered a glass of wine, after all that waiting around. Rest of the day was spent at leisure - mostly reading - on borad. Met at 17.00h in M&P's suite for cocktails, then we all went to the Captain's Circle party to cheer M&P as they received the most traveled ...
Vaitape, French Polynesia ahartry... can see from our anchorage) all have plenty of unbuilt expanses. We had lunch with M&P, then we all got in tenders and went ashore. We checked out the bike rental, boat rental, beach transfer, and excursion situations. Paul and the kids and myself all walked down the road and back for about an hour. The rain had stopped, but the sun had not yet come out ... hot and muggy. The four of us returned to the ship, then Paul and I went to ...
Vaitape, French Polynesia ahartryPaul woke me up this morning with what sounded like a voice of panic. I thought for certain the Buttercup had drifted during the night. Paul, however, wanted to show me a beautiful sunrise. After the color died I promptly went back to sleep. I was later awakened by the smell of coffee. Gradually, all got up and had breakfast. Paul, Arlene, Don, and Tom dinghied into the beach for a morning shelling. Ardice stayed on board to catch up on the log (she had only gotten it on ...
Vaitape, French Polynesia ahartry"There is a fuzzy line between optimism and pure fantasy." -Tom, later that same day Once again, we had an early morning. Coffee and two pamplemousses later, we were off. Part way up the channel, we had to pause to de- outboard the dinghy. No problem. We were treated to a beautiful sunrise with "aspen glow' on Bora Bora. We played follow the leader with a trimaran out of Passe Papai. It was a warm, lovely day, and we set out on a nice broad reach towards ...
Vaitape, French Polynesia ahartry... the river was clogged with freshly copped boughs. However, we figured if they could come up, we could go down. Logical. At this point, the rive got very narrow (and, I would imagine, still does). The trees form a natural arbor over the river with their leaves. The trunks, stems and branches create an intricate, tangled barrier to the interior. Cool stuff. We picked up another passenger --a spider! It looked like a cross between a daddy-long-legs and a tarantula. We let it stay for a ...
