April in Paris... well March, close enough

We are here... I find that the older I get the harder these long flights are. I still have a horrid time trying to sleep on the plane. Cory always sleeps like a baby. We checked into our Hotel, Hotel Bonne Nouvelle. Our hotel is located very near the Metro stop in the second arrondissement near the opera. It is an interesting room. Of course like most rooms in large cities, it is pretty small. The door is padded to keep out the noise of the city. We have the most adorable bath tub. It looks l...

Rodin to Roundabouts

I have loved the sculpture of Rodin for as long as I can remember. My first trip to Paris I didn't have enough time to visit the Rodin museum. Musee Rodin is situated in the rococo mansion that was built in 1730. Rodin lived here from 1908 to his death in 1917. It is hard to choose a favorite from "The Kiss" to "The Gates of Hell" every sculpture is a masterpiece but there is something about Burghers of Calais that touches me. Maybe it is the history behind it. Men that were willing to give ...

Picasso and other dead artists

Cory absolutely loves Picasso. He isn't one of my favorites but the Musee Picasso is a must see stop for artists in Paris. His story is an interesting one with the story of his wife and mistress, two totally opposite woman who are portrayed in many of his paintings. When Picasso died in 1973 his family paid the inheritance tax in artwork and that led to this museum in the Hotel Sale' Cory enjoyed rambling from one room to the next watching Picasso's progression. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTspi...

Disneyland and Studios outside of Paris

Normally I wouldn't even think of visiting Disney on my vacation but Cory has insisted. We both work at Disney in Orlando so it will be interesting to compare the two. Today we took the metro out to Disneyland Paris. I screwed up and purchased the wrong kind of ticket so we had to pay a supplement once we arrived so that we could get off of the train and through the turnstiles. We are using our employee pass to get into the park. I am glad that it is valid and that we don't have to pay admiss...

Ma-Louvreing through Paris

After a fantastic night of catch up sleep we are ready to attack Paris full force. Where is the first place that two artist go when in Paris???? The Louvre. It is easiest to enter the Louvre through the metro entrance but I wanted Cory to have the full experience. We entered through the Pyramid created by I.M. Pei. I had bought a La Carte Musées et Monuments card at the Arch De Triomphe yesterday. This card entitles you to free admission to 63 museums and monuments in Paris and the surroundi...

Paris: Walking Walking Walking

... where the Notre Dame cathedral is. Walked through some beautiful flower markets here. Again, everything is so lush and vibrantly coloured then on to have a look through Notre Dame. Of course Jeff had to do his hunchback impersonation... but it was a bit weak as even he was embarrassed doing that in front of the throngs of tourists. By this time we were getting pretty stuffed so headed over to the Ile St Louis to try some famous Berthillon ...

Beautiful Paris

... ventured towards the Eiffel tower. I was blown away by the number of people queuing for the attraction but I should have expected it as after all it is one of the worlds most famous landmarks. By the time we found ourselves at the head of the queue the sun was beginning to set....we chose to climb the stairs rather than take the lift to get the "real" feel of the monument. After huffing and puffing my way up I was greeted with the most incredible view....well worth ...

Gai Paris !

... What a sight it was , we were impressed as soon as we saw it but then it started to sparkle and shimmer it absolutly blew us away ! - and i think the hundreds of other people walking around it even at midnight were impressed too ! As it was overcast we decided we will have to go up the tower another time too! On Sunday we had a good look around Les Marais and then had a lovely picnic in Luxemburg Park - it was just like out of a story book , with the perfectly ...

Alone in Paris.

... into one massive, cumbersome, bulky travelpack breaking my back and an overstuffed green manbag hanging off to my side, the nylon strap digging into my neck. I had no idea how to get a train ticket into Paris, I just knew where I wanted to go. In typical French style, the ticket vending machines at the international airport are French-only and accept only European credit cards. I found this out after I'd queued up and bravely attempted to purchase one ...

... too. We didn't have snails, but we did have foie gras (ground up internal organs of goose), which I've already had and still don't like too much. For the main dish we had duck and potatoes, so it was reminiscent of a traditional Thanksgiving. Of course we had champagne as an aperitif and then wine with the meal, so combined with the fact the meal went until 11:30 at night and the fact that I'd already eaten a huge meal, I was ready for bed afterwards. My family also gave ...
