Bondi Beach

Peter Ricci is so nice! He lives only 1 block for our wretched hostel. Very impressed with his place: his flat screen is bigger than any TV we have aver seen, leather couches, huge signed poster of Clint Eastwood, modern art paintings of the Mona Lisa and 4 flat screen computers: Bachelor pad. Turns out, he used to play professional football here in Australia for 15 years. Now, he owns a web design company. He says we can come and go as we please - so we spent the day at Bondi Beach. Pretty n...

Sydney So Far

Hi All Welcome to my travel log, where I will let you know how I am getting on in my travels (and will post some pictures once I figure it out). First I will let you know the story so far (briefly), left Ireland on 20 aug and flew to Hong Kong where I stayed for 3 nights which was mad. Arrived in Sydney on 23rd August 2005. I got a job fairly quickly working in an insurance company mail room which is grand, its right in the city near martin place which is handy. Got an apartment in North Bond...

So here we are in 'Brissy' as the locals call it. We're staying in a nice hostle called Bunk, it has a pool, one of the best bars in Brissy and cozy rooms. On our first night we hit the town, but it was a little dissapointing, it was quiet...almost too quite. Although it was a sunday night, we expected it to be a bit more lively in a large city like Brisbane. It turned out that the busiest place was our very own hostel, so we stayed there and had a few cheap jugs of beer and hit the sack, the...

Aaron and I were lucky enough to duck down to Sydney where I could finally experience the Opera House for myself. We were visiting friends...smack dab in the middle of Bondi Beach. Sydney is very reminiscent of San Francisco, mixed with Seattle, mixed with Vancouver. Beautiful architecture, great accents, and a plethora of restaurants and bars. You'll learn quickly in this part of the world, that "Quay" is pronounced "Key" and you'll only make that mistake once. We took a ferry over to Watson...

We arrived in Sydney on Easter Monday. We headed over to Bondi Beach as Neil had kindly offered us his spare room as our base for the next few days. After a quick catch up on each others news we headed off for a short walk along the coastal path and met up with Karin on the way. After a stroll along to the next cove and watching some surfers cruise precariously close to some rocks we headed to Neil's local The Bondi Icebergs Club. This club had a great vantage point at the end of Bondi Beach ...

Sydney Day 1

... this cafe around the corner called Strawberry X, for airplane food is not that filling. After I tried to go to the consulate, which was closed due to the Holiday coming up, I walked around a bit through Hyde Park and went back to Central Train Station where I bought my Sydney Pass.
I got on the Sydney Explorer and rode the bus for a while. The driver ...

Back in Australia

... very tired due to lack of sleep and the time differences. We had a nap in the afternoon and then went into town to buy some warm clothes because it is very cold here compared with Asia. I bought some jeans and a long-sleeved T shirt. We bought some food (mainly cheese!) because we can finally cook for ourselves. After dinner we went to sleep, because we were exhausted.

We spent the whole of the next day changing our flights and booking a trip to ...

... which were nice and a few rainforests. We went for a walk in Dorrigo rainforest. Saw a snake whilst we were on the skybridge and Ben caught a leech just about to start snacking on his leg, this put an end to our big idea of doing a rainforest walk and we retreated to the cafe to have a scone and a hot chocolate whilst waiting for the rain to finish. Left Dorrigo and went to stay in Crescent Head. Lovely little surf village ...

... sophie and we were going to go to Manly Beach but by the time we walked to the quay to catch the ferry it was a bit too late, so we went today instead. It was gorgeous weather! The sea was really warm, well for me! Sophie is a bit aclimatised so it was chilly for her. Awesome waves, but a really strong current so you had to be careful. The ferry ride over was lovely, past the ...

New Year in Sydney

... comfy socks and slippers you wear around the house. It was great to see everyone again and see what everyone was up to. Kelly's is like our Cheers - we know all the regulars, all the bar staff know not only our names but what we drink so we don't even have to ask for our drinks at the bar because they're already on the way. It's like our home away from home - I think it's one of the reasons we'd been considering doing fruit picking to get our second ...
