Train Alternatives

... times I was in Germany, the trains were so prompt and you could set your watch by them. Not quite the case now but then the S-bahns were not running so maybe that slowed down the other trains.

Our train arrived at 8:01 so only 2 minutes late. But we only have a 9 minute window to change trains once we get into Poland. Having been through the "change trains in a foreign country where ...

To Hel and back

... seeing much at all. We did drop on a few nice towns and camped a few nights on a great cheap site a short bike ride from the beach. The Poles as in the south never let anything get in the way of there holiday, these resorts were jam packed, the sea was freezing but they were going for it, as in the south these places could become tacky and overcrowded but the Poles have great respect for there own country and with the amount of people it was easily one of the cleanest well run ...

... went (for an old man he not only moved quite quickly, but he also blended in surprisingly well) and trying to take a straw poll as to whether we should try and run away right now or wait for him to come back. We were all convinced that we were ready to run when the man popped back up right in front of us and told us to follow. The skepticism amongst the group increased as we followed this strange man out of the train yard and onto the normal streets (when I say normal ...

If That's What the Alley Girls Look Like...

... of the dingier parts of the city, we are taken on a "short cut" through an alley where it looked like we were going to get mugged. While going through it, I see two gorgeous Polish girls. Derek turns to me and says, "Geez, if that's what the alley girls look like in Poland, what do the normal ones look like?" Laryssa did not approve. We also ran into a church that was once the tallest building in Szczecin, but unfortunately the steeple ...

Days 3-4

... after WW2), great parks and a spacious city center. I really had a good first impression about Poland. Day 4 After some late night partying the night before (and probably too much beer!) I was feeling more tired than ever and had a slight hang over. For that reason we didn't do any heavy sightseeing, instead we spent our time strolling around the park close to the city hall and finished our day visiting the cemetery (spooky!), the largest in Europe according to locals.

... noemen.

Szczecin (try to pronounce it !)

... Kinga's book, so if somebody needs one : for only 15 euro it can be yours. After that we left in the direction of Szczecin through one of the slowest roads I have ever seen (ok, we are exaggerating, the road from Mexico City to Tenochtitlan is even worse). But it was not our lucky day : road works, detours, road blocks, .... 300 km took us more that 6 hours effective road time, not really very fast. But the ...

My first time in Poland

... weight and food anxiety that I could leave behind. This was north Poland, Sczeczin, it was actually German territory previously, or at one point in time. Other than the smokey chimney smell, and the old roads, I have no complaints. The people are wonderfully hospitable, and I didn't run into any dangerous situations so I will keep this opinion.. until later. ;)
