... worth it. We were rewarded with beautiful views of the Danube into Austria and also the town of Devín and the mountains behind. The castle is famous for its Neolithic settlements and it was built at a strategic by the Danube and Amber route. Neolithic bronze and Iron Age artefacts were all found around the area. Houses in the Neolithic settlement are about the size of a flat I can afford in London. After we left the castle Jennifer urged me to have ...

Perhaps because Bratislava is so small and therefore there are very few options of where to go for a party, everyone congregates in the center of the city next to the Danube River. It’s possible that not only all of Bratislava was down there, but that many of the people from the outlying cities most likely come in for the celebrations, plus the random cold-bearing tourists like ourselves. The shadow of the iron curtain seemed heavier here in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Every old beautiful building had the bottom 6 feet of its walls covered with graffiti and not cool graffiti, just people's names & tags. As we left the center part of old town, we were in a forest of cement apartment buildings built by the Communists. They were cold and austere and ugly according to our guide. She would identify each communist built building by saying the "ugly ...

        Day 1: July 17, 2013

It took us almost 8 hours to get from Krakow to Vienna (PLN 135 per student). Then we had to wait for 1 hour for the connecting bus from Vienna to Bratislava. We both have already been to Vienna. Even if Gonzalo considers Vienna to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe (together with Barcelona and Prague) so he would be happy to visit it again, we decided to skip Vienna and go directly to Bratislava. Well, there was actually another ...
