    ... have a really funny sense of humour and they have installed sculptures and statues in the city which have no meaning, but the locals like to make legends up about them. My particular favorite is the "Cumil" statue, which is a man lurking out from the sewer, watching the passerby’s. People love to stop and take photos with him; our guide told us that he is there to look up women’s skirts, but in reality, she says no one really knows what he represents.

    This afternoon we were split into small groups. (Our group consisted of the 3 of us and a fourth person from Washington, DC.) We were dropped off at the home of a retired couple, husband and wife, both stricken with polio.     ... was getting better and better. I made an awesome salami pasta, ate it like a pig and headed out to visit Hrad Castle (Bratislava Castle). It is perched up on a hill, about 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and provides great views of the city from up top. Being a Monday, unfortunately the actual Castle itself was closed.     ... fountain has been dry since 2007. The square is supposed to provoke a feeling of freedom inside of each visitor. We felt depressed rather than proud. The square was completely abandoned, full of dry grass and benches designed in the communist style.
