It was a long 5 hour drive today to get to the Pyrenees but it was worth every minute of it to round a corner and see the snow capped mountains in the distance. We arrived at our campsite at Bagneres de Bigorre just south of Tarbes in the Haut Pyrenees about 2pm and were amazed to see the elusive yellow ball (aka the sun) in the sky….yeee haaa!!


Our campsite is stunning, situated at the foot of the Pyrenees, there are currently only 2 vans staying ...

The grotto was beautiful. The rock walls were freezing to the touch. But there was a sense of tranquility as we sat and prayed. Cherry and I walked the mountain to see the Stations of the Cross and drank the Holy Water from the Grotto. There were lots of people waiting to go into the baths but you weren't allowed to watch. We purchased little bottles to take some Holy Water home but you could buy 5 ...

... was outside the city in an unpleasant area where people were known to take their garbage! Today, the tiny Grotto sits immediately under the old Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and is surrounded by asphalt and concrete. We pilgrims keep it holy, despite the changed environs, by praying there. In fact, we joined a large group of Italians as they completed the rosary. BTW, the thunder and lightening storm returned as soon as we set foot out of our hotel. ...
