... off a few things at our bunks, and then walked up to the ridge behind the Rifugio. The views were spectacular but it was windy and cold. We had a nice dinner at the Rifugio and then settled in for the night. Most of us didn't sleep that great. It might have been a combination of the altitude, the wine we had, and the snoring. The next morning (today), we had a nice breakfast and then left to head downhill. We passed by a number of tunnels and an officers' ...

We stopped at the Rifugio Lavaredo briefly and continued on to the Rifugio Locatelli, which was a very busy hut. Here I had a beer and Val had a mineral water. Choughs are black birds which are relatively common in the ...

But the most numerous vehicles are motorbikes. Everywhere we go we see signs welcoming bikers, advertising their ...

... We weren't the only ones attempting the Pass in the wintry conditions. We saw many cyclists (on bicycles) riding up and down the steep and slippery mountain roads, and of course there were the ubiquitous European sports cars hugging the corners of the twisty hairpin corners. We then rode to the Dolomite mountain range and crossed over at the Passo Stalle - an extremely picturesque single lane ...

... dessert that involved cake and cream (and of course the usual jugs of red wine).
(Added by Bob): the hike in on day one was quite cold and windy. It was only plus 6 when we set out with fresh snow on the higher elevations and windy. We were all pretty cold when we stopped for coffee. Today on the hike out Viv, one of the ladies on our hike who lives in Switzerland, fell and sprained her wrist and broke her expensive camera. We're hoping she's going to be ok ...
