Ausserbinn, Switzerland lesterenanneThis morning we set out for the famous Swiss Alps. Think Sound of Music. Yes, I know that was set in Austria, but think of the setting nonetheless. We took a morning train from Zurich to Interlaken, where we would spend the night. The approach into the Alps was breathtaking. Technically it's breathtaking in more ways than one, because at the higher altitudes it does become a little more difficult to breath, but not as noticable as I've ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland trockie... deal with couch surfers is that couch surfers help out at the hostel to earn their keep (and stay for free). So, we washed the breakfast dishes, swept and mopped the floor, vacuumed a few rooms, etc. We became friends with the girl who was working and she found us the key. The room we stayed in was the "bouldering room." Basically, it was the attic of the hostel and the peaked ceiling had rock climbing holds all over it and the ground is ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland chelseyineuropeWe were then supposed to take an overnight train to Bern Switzerland but I managed to **** that up royally and booked the train to Berne Germany, which is in the opposite direction... Jon was not impressed... and I only realized this 1 hr before our 10 pm train. So after hours of trying to rent a car (impossible during Oktoberfest) we got really lucky and found a car that needed to be returned to Switzerland anyways. So after a full day of ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland sofenjon... top of Europe', and upon reaching those dizzying heights, on the observation deck, it really did feel as though I was brushing past mountain peaks, which, as travel experiences go, is best described as 'transcendental'. Full marks to the hotel for their gourmet-style food too, and all credit goes to the Swiss for their efficiency, which always makes your stay in Switzerland seem so smooth-running and effortless. The overall cost of living put ...
Grindelwald, Swiss Alps, Switzerland jollyjetsetter... its being 1 am... it is Christmas eve. Christmas morning Jagged peaks pierce the azure blue... now I really know what azure is. Mike and Sophi spend the day skiing down snowy slopes, I spend the day quietly hiking up them. The alps are amazing!
Grindelwald, Switzerland sogone... or disappointment, anyway can't wait until we hit the Jungfraujoch peak tomorrow, I may get show tunes and interpretive dance if I am lucky. We head back into town, do some shopping and catch the bus home. Now we are sitting outside, (abit chilly but not raining, so we will take it while we can), Rob with a lager, and thinking about dinner, not bothered enough to do anything about it, but as my dad would say, its in the system. 11/8/07 Day 13 We did the 'Young Wife' or ...
Interlaken, Switzerland rob.jennFrom Zurich we made it to Luzern in a 45 minute train ride. We saw the chapel bridge and the Lion of Luzern. We had lunch at a nice cafe along the river and ate pasta while watching swams frolic in the water. It was a overcast day but we were all still in amazement of the surrounding mountains - the snow-covered Swiss Alps surrounded us on all four sides. Amazing!
Luzern, Switzerland bazingo... from Bern (the capital of Swiss) to Geneva. All was well until a British family appeared in my carriage (there were only 14 for them to choose from) and happened to have just had a weeks skiing in the same village that I live!!! I didn't get to know this knowledge from mearly passing conversation with them, no they just managed to talk so loudly that I think they could here them in passing trains as well. The father ...
Grindelwald, Switzerland sheffsterAbsolutely perfect weather. Train from Spiez to Lauterbrunnen. Walked along the road thru stunning valley. High, sheer cliffs, myriad of cascades, farms. Sky cloudless. Entered Trummelbach Falls which pours through an incredible gorge in the cliffs. We took the lift up, then walked through a series of view points. Beautiful and impressive. Hiked up ...
