Volcano no go - a Castle will have to do

... so first time we felt we were back in Australia!

We dropped our luggage off at the hotel and bought a city circle one day bus pass (400 yen each) with first stop Kumamoto Castle. Yes, another castle but this one at least has an original section, though as with many of these sites, there has been substantial restoration and/or reconstruction. The castle is classed as one of the top 3 in Japan and turned out to be very different to others ...

We decided to take today as a recovery day so we slept in a little and went for a leisurely breakfast before heading out from our hotel. We were able to walk to all of our destinations today. Our first stop was the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum. This museum introduces the daily life and culture of Fukuoka City during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Craft products and souvenirs such as Hakata Ori (folk woven textile) and Hakata dolls were on sale. Our next stop ...

We said goodbye to Kazuko who took the bus to her home while Haruyo and the 3 of us took a different bus back to Hakata ...

However, it would seem that not many English speaking tourists go to Saga, and we found there was less English spoken here than anywhere else we have been. Despite all that, we seem to have learned how to find out what we want to know in relation to buses and timetables, and we ...

Well, we got to Saga but....

Our bus ride this morning, while very pleasant, did not pan out exactly as we hoped. However, I am posting this blog so everyone will know that we have arrived in Saga and all is well.

I did mention that my plan to travel from Miyazaki to Saga was not possible and that the helpful assistant at the bus station had fairly limited English, while we have no Japanese at all, except for hello, thank you, ...
