The day before we landed in Poland, there was a massive storm. So big, it washed out a good chuck of it's national railway. This lead to a bit of a dilemma. How to get to Kamienna Góra. After a hour of frantic phone calls, Anita's relatives decided that it was best to catch the train, then it'd bypass the damaged parts by bus, then we'd be back on our journey. Ahhh, all sweet.
Once again, we were late to rise, and it made for a hectic hour ...
Jelenia Góra ('deer mountain') is about couple of hours south from Wroclaw (trains or buses). It is close to the Karkonosze mountain range running along the Polish-Czech border. Only 10-15 km of the town there are few ski resorts such as Karpacz, Szklarska Poreba.
Nice, colorful Market Square, Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre, Saint Cross Church, the Old Town are just few places worth of seeing.

... br>Its obviously a bit poorer in these former eastern block countries so you do get to see Europe from a completely different perspective, there was lots of heavy industry mixed in with the countryside, but generally it seems like a country trying to improve the best way it can. Its always a bit nervy crossing into a new country seeing if you are safe enough to free camp, but we did find a spot next to a lake on the first night and felt pretty safe.

al the former eastern bloc countries make for good travel,, but the one that i return to is the czech republic,, mainly to the north [north bohemia],liberec, harrochov, cesky raj, but a trip or two to moravia is also worth taking,,. during the communist times it was an eye opener, now also as the people wish for the return of those times, they knew where their bread was coming from, and the upgrades fron old skoda to super fast motorcars,, ah they stilll are crazy on the roads
Liberec, Bohemia, Czech Republic jefa... takze sme vybrali nase jesenne vertovky, ktore s nami precestovali pol sveta za posledny tyzden a mohli sme objavovat mesto pred nami. Liberec ma krasny architekturu z cias ked to bolo druhe najvyznamnejsie mesto v Cechach. Jeho odevnicky a tkacsky priemysel je preslaveny v celom byvalom Ceskoslovensku.
Liberec, Bohemia, Czech Republic mozi... together, that I think it is a miracle we did not kill each other. We had enough of each other from time to time, but I reckon it`s pretty normal when you`re spending with someone 24 hours a day. None of us has an easy going personality. Marcin is this kind of a person that takes one step forward, e.g. he`d tell me sth personal, then he takes two steps back - for instance he`d be teasing me all day long. Considering ...
Szklarska Poreba, Western Poland, Poland bognaAfter my longest stretch of work without a break, I was glad when the May day holiday finally came around. It was a year earlier that I took advantage of the sunny skies to do some hiking in the Tatra mountains, although it was to be a different mountain range this time around. For the first time, I was to head south west into the heart of the Karkonosz mountains, a range made up of predominantly spruce forest, with dwarf mountain pines and alpine vegetation fading away above 1250m to ...
Karpacz, Western Poland, Poland will... no one home I presume. Tomorrow we are going to visit the town as its apparently a great example of Czech centres so we will see. 10/10/07 Day 72 Rob - washing day today, but the German woman wont relinquish control of the dryer so Jenn is fuming, staring out of the window and scowling). (JENN- in my defence we are totally out of clothes, Rob has no knickers (day 2 for today's garments) and is down to his last shirt so its make or break time. Rob is ...
Trutnov, Czech Republic rob.jenn... over as they investigated the USA passport. They probably don't see many of these at this crossing! We cruised into the town of Liberec and the green mountains began to extend in the distance and the fresh mountain air cascaded thru my lungs! We found the tourist office and our route further over the mountian to our camping destination. "It is just over the moutain range on the other side", said the woman at ...
Liberec, Bohemia, Czech Republic vwskullSo it was with the recommendation of a local cafe owner in Kobylisy, we headed off to Harrachov. We took the Metro from kobylisy to Muzeum, changed to Cerny Most (strange desolate place) and caught a bus to Jablonec nad Nizou , and after paying 10 Kc for a pee, we caught a little bus that took us straight into Harachov - only 4/5 miles from the Polish border. There were 8 foot snowdrifts all around us - tremendous, I'd never seen so mch snow! We ...
