Jardines 9, Casco Viejo Bilbao, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands, 48005, 34-944-794-210
I arrived in Bilbao and got the Biskaiabus to the Plaza Moyúa. From there I got the Metro to the Casco Viejo which is where my hotel was. When I came out of the metro station I saw one of the Kukuxumusu shops. They sell t-shirts with really cool designs. I bought one, an orange one with lots of sheep on I think. Anyway, after that I walked around trying to find my hotel. Eventually I found it and checked in.
Bilbao, Spain and Canary Islands rafamoroniOn Sunday I woke up at 10am. I then spent a while wandering round Bilbao looking for some breakfast. Eventually I found a café and bought a roll with some ham and cheese I think and mayonnaise on the top. Wasn't too bad. I then walked on the Zubizari and tried to find the nearest metro station. I think Moyua was the one I found. Anyway, due to the amount of time it took me to find it by the time I reached Portugalete the game had already kicked off. Luckily the scoreboard showed that noone ha...
Bilbao, Spain and Canary Islands rafamoroniAfter two days in the little town of Loarre, we moved on to the Rioja "wine country". We stopped for lunch in Haro, but then decided that we weren't going to stay there for the night. Haro was a pretty town (population ~9000), and while there was no reason to leave right away, there really wasn't much of reason to stay either. I bet that during the grape growing season the countryside would be beautiful, but now it was just OK. So we moved on to Bilbao, a town of about 400,000 people. We were...

... our first surfing destination to dip a toe or two into a deserted Atlantic which Lym thoroughly enjoyed, however which led Annabelle to looking like an extra from a B-grade vampire movie; this following her surfboard and her face becoming rather intimate. Enough for one day, onward to our campsite at historic Santillana del Mar.
Bilbao, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands lymandannabelle... few pinchos and glasses of wine. It is the favorite pastime of Bilbaoans on a Friday night. In fact, it’s 10pm and they action is just starting….but we’re settling in for bed. We’ve just been blown away by the food this time around. In the past our gastronomic experience was less than stellar. I think we just hadn’t gone to the right places. The feature tonight was a duck ...
Bilbao, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands sinfronterasWe drove from Madrid, got a bit lost trying to find Lurdea. We thought it is a name of a village but it is not it is just the name of the Hotel/Casa Rural.

The place is amazing. Located in the hills above Bermeo, with magnificent view of the ocean. It is clean (like really clean) and has the air of a relaxing boutique hotel.
Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain antoniusestrillTheres one reason why most tourists come here. The Guggenheim Museum. And unlike most museums they come to see the building itself rather than the contents. The Frank Gehry designed building is well worth it too, an extraordinary sculpture of a building that truly is world class piece of art itself. I like it, but I wasn't too impressed by many of the contents. I liked the impressionist and the expressionist ...
Bilbao, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands nickfear... paintings and sculpture are a minority compared to installations and electronic forms. One of the famous and permanent exhibit of the Guggenheim Museum is "The Matter of Time", a series of weathering steel sculpture s designed by Richard Serra and the housed in the 430-foot Arcelor Gallery. Bilbao, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands antoniusestrillUrghh long, long bus journey from Valencia. Sleeping tablets helped, but what didn't were the rude Spanish couple behind us who persisted on banging on the back of our seats all journey. They seemed angry that we were using the recline function which we had paid, and were entitled to use...

Anyway, arrive at about 8 or something where we got ...
