... got to, and through Benasque and found the campsite. This is quite an old site , terraced, with a lot of trees and we had difficulty finding a pitch that was a) big enough and b) that we could access.
As we were walking around looking for a pitch it started to rain heavily and 6hrs later it is still pouring! The mountains have disappeared into the mist.

... all sides, the Sierra de la Demanda on the right(S) and the Cantabrian mtns on the left (N) We saw hundreds of Pilgrims on the way. As we got nearer to Logrono we moved into the Rioja wine producing area. The road was fantastic, in fact in places they were still building it!

Boltana to Torla

... were warned by some Spanish walkers that the path ahead was too dangerous to continue along. We thanked them but carried on walking as far as we could. The danger point was a wide patch of snow that was too steep to try and traverse. We stopped for lunch and admired the amazing view of one of Spain’s highest waterfalls, the Cascada de Cotatuero at over 200m high.

Espot to Boltana

Tuesday 3rd June

We drove to Boltana today. We stopped for shopping and a coffee in Vielha on one of the main link routes across the Pyrenees from France to Spain. We watched HGV's thunder past us.

The road to Boltana took us along some very scenic roads, across mountain passes and through deep gorges. The road through the gorge was narrow with lots of twists and turns. Interesting in its own right but even more interesting ...

... wood. The digger arrived the next day and Graham first had to remove the ash tree stump. It took all morning as we think the tree is about 60 years old and had been pollarded many times. We even had to get Raymond to come with the tractor to lift it. Sadly it is of no use to us for firewood as it is impossible to cut it up – unless of course we leave it to dry out all summer.
