    ... He didn’t speak English, only French. The spare tube that he had was also leaking so we gave him our tube and CO2. We figured being helpful to a fellow cyclist would bless us with good riding legs.

    ... the top of Glandon you turn left and then a steady 3km rise to Col de la Croix de Fer, then a long descent.

    Next climb, Col du Mollard , was really tough because I started getting stomach cramps ..in hindsight I reckon that was the result of drinking too much coke at the drink stops (they had a choice between warm Perrier Sparkling, cold Coke or warm Evian. No brainer.

    The organsiers said that over 15,000 riders had entered this year....I reckon there was 15,000 cars up that road.

    Anyway, I got to La Toussuire, registered for the race at the Etape village and met up with Chris at the village entrance.

    Just in side the entry was a 15m long banner with all the names of the entrants. As usual the village was full of bike gear exhibits and sales.

    280 km Fuel €15.30 and €10 First part of the drive was through flatland Italy wasn't much to see but the second half was great, down the French rocky Alps into Monaco. One road was shut going over the Alps so had to take a detour. Walked down to the harbour in nice and saw some very expensive boats a had dinner at a French /American bar. £78.13 apogia ...
