You'll need to spend some money for ...

Back home, you have to pay $5 and fill out a form (not friendly for the average traveller). Armed with a 'Tag’ card I was able to use L.A.’s system to get with walking distance of my hostel with relative ease.

    Escape From LA

... a waste since I missed that gem. Either way... the early arrival in Portland gave me a chance to grab some groceries for the train trip to LA and we were on our way. After almost forty hours in transit, from 9:35 AM on Feb.18th to 11:18 PM on Feb. 19th I arrived in LA. Instead of bothering my friends at midnight to crash I thought the most logical thing to do was to drive out to Joshua Tree so I could see the park and avoid LA Traffic. ...
