... br> Jody had already done some investigating and Penang in Malaysia seemed to be the a)easiest b)quickest c)cheapest place to go so she booked our bus ticket and we caught the night boat to Surat Thani.

Now Jody had seen the night boat our friends Kiki & Per left on so expectation was pretty low. But when we found our bunk we were quite pleasantly surprised.

The middle deck was kitted out end to end with bunk beds. Doubles down the middle ...

We also visited Khoo Kongsi, a Chinese clan house that was quite spectacular. Whilst we could appreciate the architecture, the information provided about the place was bombarded at you and we found it a little overwhelming.

... tourist trap' status much more than the heritage one. And it's not only our opinion- every tourist we talked felt the same way. Overpriced, dirty and stinky with an open sewer pipes running next to the street and people literally emptying their buckets of dirty water right on the pavement! Famous cultural diversity is a bunch of shabby Chines and Indian restaurants. The only nice thing in Georgetown was a street art. We went to see apparently the biggest Buddhist temple in SE ...
