So we finally arrived (or so we thought) we was dropped on a floating barge in the middle of the sea a hundred or so metres from shore, payed the token "park fee" that they always charge and then unless we was going to swim to the shore we would have to pay another small fee and transfer to a little long tail boat to take us to the shore. ... several water monitors (lizards) lounging on the beach. These massive lizards (not as large as the Komodo dragon but pretty darn big) were soaking up the sun without a care in the world. As we slowly approached and I tried to take a few photographs they stealthily made their way across the beach and disappeared into the very dense forest foliage. One of them crossed right over the trail where we were walking; he/she must have been at least 2 meters long!
