... to the parking lot and got on the road to Salzburg, Germany.

BTW, the Autobahn is amazing here! The rest stops are super clean, and many of them have a play area for the kids. We stopped at one of these along the way; it also had incredible views of the what our drive looked like most of the way. Now if I was only driving a vehicle that would actually go 200 kms/hour without shaking like a rattled aspen leaf :-(

    Auf wiedersehen,

    ... tour and the castle!

Once we finished with his boyhood home, we headed up a very steep 30-minute hike to get to his fairytale castle, Neuschwanstein! While the first castle was beautiful but not extravagant, the parts of this castle that were finished were astounding opulent! Today is the day I've been waiting for this whole trip! We visited Schwangau and saw two amazing castles: Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. These are two of the biggest tourist attractions in all of Germany. We left Salzburg just after 8 a.m. We had about a three-hour drive to Füssen, the site of tonight's hotel, and we wanted to get parked in Füssen and catch a bus to Schwangau. I had reserved tickets for our tours of the castles and they had to be picked up by ...

Our stay in Fussen was truly a day fit for kings. We arrived via train from Munich midday yesterday. The ride was enjoyable compared to the bus ride and gave me ample time to read and enjoy views of the countryside. Upon arrival, we immediately took a bus up the mountains to visit the castles. We started with a hike uphill to the Hohenschwangau castle, which was the older of the two that we visited. With beautiful views of the mountains ...

    Day Three in Fussen

A travel blog entry by erzetic on May 19, 2015

Today again starts with breakfast at 7.30am. Steve goes all the way today with two hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Steve is our driver for the day. We are off to visit the summer palace today. The drive tales us into Austria for a short time. We traveled past a magnificent lake and stopped for a daily shot. Unfortunately the weather is not so good today and there is light rain. Eventually make it to the summer palace. This is the smallest of the three ...
