Knocking on Heaven's door - Montserrat

... said that I shouldn’t miss it.

Ines tells us Montserrat means serrated mountain and delves into the story about a shepherd boy who discovers a black Madonna in the mountains hundreds of years ago. He tries to bring it down on a donkey but it gets heavier and heavier until he’s unable to carry it, so he brings it back where it was found and the village builds a shrine for the statue. Today Montserrat is home ...

A trip back "home"

... bit and not changed colour, and have not touched my lonely planet (although I would argue that this is a good thing). Looks like spontaneity is the order of the day once I hit Caracas.

Other than that I've played with my parents' dog, Dingo, had some family board game fun, and of course a little guitar hero :-)

I've also been out and ...

Requena....Wine Festival

... cost 7 euros per person for the glass and 8 tasting tickets. It's important to note here, that the tastings are NOT a drop in the bottom of the glass, the portions were more than generous, and on the first night I couldn't finish using all the tickets!

The second night, we tried some of the more reserve wines that 'cost' 2 tickets.

At one of the tasting tents there was a very helpful girl that took some time to explain some ...

La Tomatina

... of people waiting in anticipation for the worlds largest food fight to begin. We were hours early so had time to kill – we managed to bump into Scotts friend and her sister and friends – which was good.

At midday the mayhem began – we were about half way down the tiny road, the houses which lined the road were covered in plastic and the people were standing on their little landings throwing buckets of water on top of us! When the first tomato truck came up the ...

Ibiza Beaches - Worth Doing Again

... moved to the minimal. Jeans are now light cotton pants, shirts are short sleeve. This is one of the reasons why my backpack looks like it holds my entire closet (I tried).

While at Ibiza, I managed to stay up late enough to hit 2 clubs, Privilege and Amnesia. Clubs are expensive. On my first night, the clear major party was at Space. $100 for entry alone. Each club seems to have at least 1 night which it has "the" party although ...

Scandal: Mary showered with 6 guys today!!!

... br>
We saw a creepy Spanish family enjoying the festivities. There was what appeared to either be a brother and his much younger sister, or a boyfriend and his MUCH younger girlfriend. Either way, it was creepy how they were so touch-feely ... but even creepier was when the entire family tried to rip off her shirt! A little too close, if you ask me ...

Valencia - Americas Cup

... covered some miles.... We left a windy and drizzly Porto and headed towards Largos. The poor roads and crazy speed traffice lights made travel slow so reassessed and decided to head to Sintra to camp for the night. Is faster to take the dual carriage toll roads but they are quite expensive. Got to see alot of the small towns which was cool. Was hard to find a place to free camp, eventually found a carpark by a cemetary which was a little eerie, only one night ...

Not enough hours in the day! May 4-16

... and class starts officially at 10:00. We do a bit of language work and analysis in the mornings, have lunch for an hour, and then have an hour study break before teaching begins. Usually the hour of lunch combined with study break will mean that I can run to the copy shop and then come back to eat lunch in front of my pile of visual aids and notes. Teaching is from 15:15-17:15 most days, and we teach for about 30 mins each. The group we´ve been working with are pre ...

Tough Tomatoes

... most powerful sangria every consumed we lay in the sun and bask. Later we would release that we have become human sun-dried tomatoes but for now there is nothing to do except lay in the sun and smile! I strongly urge anyone who has the opportunity to visit this festival to do so. And if you do and in by any chance you see a Spanish man with a dragon tattoo across his chest, make sure to say hello from me and make sure to throw the biggest tomato you can find at him!!! Lounging on Ibiza

... a look. There was a small promenade and a wide sandy beach. We decided to take advantage of the fact that there was practically nobody at the beach and layed out our towels to relax. We dipped our feet only to find that waters were too cold for swimming. So we just layed back and soaked in the peaceful atmosphere. Back on our mopeds, we left Es Pujols to check out more of the beaches. We rode about 10 minutes until we arrived at Platja de Llevant. This beach was on ...
